Hiking

Get yourself and Fido good exercise by hiking throughout the region. Several area trails range from being able to leave your dog off-leash to needing to be on a leash at all times.

Pend Oreille Bay Trail

Enjoy a  picturesque walk along the Pend Oreille Bay Trail, 1.5 miles long (one way), along the shoreline of Lake Pend Oreille, offering breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. It’s ideal for an easy flat trail path for walking, jogging, biking, and wildlife watching by the water.

Mickinnick Trails

Located just outside of the city, Mickinnick Trail is a 7-mile round-trip hike. Noted for it’s challenging uphill hike for you and your pup the rewards are views of Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint, and the surrounding mountains. The trail is open to both hikers and leashed dogs, offering a great opportunity for a pet-friendly outing.

Sand Creek Trail

Take a leisurely paced journey on Sand Creek Trail in Sandpoint to Ponderay if you desire. The bike trail is completely paved and it’s recommended to keep your dog on a leash for your time on the trail.

Eating Spots

There are many different restaurants to eat and drink that allow dogs to sit with you while you eat, mainly outside. Dog friendly patios make eating with Fido a nice change to after a day of adventures.

Evans Brothers

Enjoy great coffee and treats in a relaxing atmosphere at Evan’s Brothers Coffee House. Only trained dogs are allowed but enjoy the local feel at this trending coffee house. 

The Fat Pig

Get the perfect atmosphere for enjoying everything on the menu with a rotating tap list at The Fat Pig.  The patio makes a great place to be comfortable with great food and beer. 

Laughing Dog

Hence the name… Laughing Dog loves when you bring your pals!  A great hangout for a drink and some great appetizers, it’s sure to be a hit for you and your dog.

Dog Beach Park, located off Serenity Lee Trail in Sandpoint, ID, is a pet-friendly space where dogs can burn steam on the sandy beach. Generously provided by a private donor, doggie shower stations are available to spruce up your pup before heading home. However, please remember to clean up after your pooch and ensure they are under control when off-leash, as this area is not fenced. Just nearby, you’ll find The Dog Park, situated next to the Better Together Animal Alliance. This park features an agility course and you’re certain to find a furry friend there, whatever the time of year.
