Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail

The Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail is one of the town’s treasures, stretching 1.7 miles along the shoreline from its trailhead that starts a stone’s throw from City Beach. The natural unpaved trails is just about perfectly flat and provides excellent walking, bicycling and cross-country skiing. The trail has beautiful lake views along its entire length; its birch and cottonwood trees provide shade in summer and amazing golden colors in autumn. It’s a dog-friendly trail, so expect to see people walking their people. In summer there are many nooks that offer spots to jump in for a swim.

The trail property was purchased by the Ross and Hazel Hall family in 1966 and held for many years by the family with hopes it would be acquired for public use – which was finally accomplished through a broad community partnership in 2012. The effort was led by the nonprofit Friends of Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail. See more at POBTrail.org.
